What Hacienda Bay is actually like

Hacienda Bay is a Palm Hills Developments resort community on the Mediterranean shore at Sidi Abdel Rahman. Unlike the older, denser North Coast villages that run in tight rows straight down to the sand, it is laid out around landscaped greenery, an inland lake and a golf course, with the beach and a marina as separate destinations you drive or buggy to rather than step onto from your terrace.

That layout is the single most important thing to understand before you book here, because it changes what "a good chalet" means. In a beach-row village the question is how many rows back you are. In Hacienda Bay the desirable positions are golf-front and lake-front — homes whose terraces look over open greens and water instead of a neighbour’s wall — and homes with their own private pool, which removes the walk to a shared one entirely.

It is a compound built for long, slow stays rather than day trips: full kitchens, generous open-plan living space, and a dining and retail cluster inside the gate. Most of the homes we manage here also include a separate staff room with its own bathroom — a detail that sounds unusual to visitors and is completely normal in this market, where families travel to the coast with a driver or a nanny for the season.

How these homes differ from one another

Almost all of them are three-bedroom chalets sleeping six, which is the standard Hacienda Bay unit — so the choice between them is really a choice of position and outdoor space, not of size.

First-row golf chalets look straight over the greens from a shaded terrace or pergola. The lakefront homes hold a first-row position over both the golf course and the lake. A poolside chalet puts you beside the shared pool instead. Above that sit the larger layouts: senior chalets with a wider footprint and a bigger garden, an upper-floor chalet with a private rooftop terrace, and a five-bedroom townhouse with its own pool and garden for groups of up to ten.

The other real dividing line is the private pool. Most of the golf-front and lakefront homes here have one; the poolside and senior ground-floor chalets use the compound’s pools. If you are travelling with small children or in the hottest weeks, that difference matters more than the view does.

Getting to Hacienda Bay

Hacienda Bay is reached from the Alexandria–Marsa Matrouh coastal road, the single road that threads every North Coast compound together. Sidi Abdel Rahman is west of El Alamein along that road.

From Cairo there are two normal routes: out on the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road and across on the Wadi El Natrun–El Alamein road, which meets the coast around El Alamein and is the way most people go; or up to Alexandria first and west along the coastal road, which is longer but useful if you are stopping in the city. We do not publish a kilometre marker for the compound because public sources disagree with each other about it, and an approximate number on a road where people navigate by gate name would not help you anyway. Your booking confirmation carries the exact address and directions for the specific home you have booked.

Every home here is on the Moderate policy: cancel more than 5 days before check-in and the accommodation cost is refunded in full; between 5 days and 24 hours, half of it; inside 24 hours, none. The service fee is not refunded on a guest cancellation.
